The Village of Tolo, an Ideal Summer Destination

Tolo is a picturesque village in eastern Peloponnese within the region of Argolida. Its history dates back centuries, and it has evolved significantly over time. Originally, Tolo was a small fishing village, where the locals made their living from the sea. The village was known for its calm atmosphere, where fishermen would head out early in the morning and return with fresh catches that would sustain their families and the local community.

The turning point for Tolo came in the mid-20th century when it began to attract visitors from Greece and beyond. Its natural beauty, with a long sandy beach and clear blue waters, made it an ideal spot for relaxation. As more tourists discovered Tolo, the village slowly transformed from a quiet fishing community into a popular tourist destination. Hotels, restaurants, and shops sprang up to cater to the growing number of visitors, and the local economy shifted towards tourism.

Despite its development, Tolo has managed to retain much of its charm. The village still has a laid-back, welcoming atmosphere, and the local people are proud of their heritage. Visitors can stroll along the waterfront, enjoy fresh seafood at a taverna, or take a boat trip to explore the nearby islands.

Tolo Islands

Tolo Bay is home to three small islands that add to the village's charm. The largest of these is Romvi Island, which is visible from the shore and has a unique shape. Romvi has a rich history of its own, with byzantine remains indicating that it was once fortified. The island is uninhabited today, but it offers hiking opportunities and fantastic views of Tolo, a great place for a day of exploration.

Koronisi Island is another small island in Tolo Bay. It is much smaller than Romvi but is home to the small chapel of the Twelve Apostles located on its peak. This chapel is a popular spot for visitors and ideal for wedding ceremonies in Tolo and baptisms.

The third island in Tolo is the island of Daskaleio which is hidden behind Romvi. A small island with a small church dedicated to Zoodochos Pigi and as the legend says, a place where it was used as a hidden school for the children of fishermen during the Ottoman occupation of Greece. Today it is an ideal destination for a boat trip in Tolo!
